Eleven! This is something new.

A couple weeks ago I tried to write an omnibus post involving recent happenings, my patchwork tutorial, an update on my skirt, and a(nother) look at pants. Needless to say, that never happened. Instead I offer you this quick post, typed out in one go and full of exciting things (at least to me)!

So, a few things have happened since I was last on here. For one thing, the fall term at school started. The past ten sixteen twenty-five days have been hectic. Then a few days later Nothy Lane of A Question for the Teacher passed on the Liebster award to me -- thanks, Nothy! (And sorry for taking so long to get to it!) Nothy had been awarded it for A Question for the Teacher, where she discusses education and posts great reading lists, but I'd recommend you also check out Aft Agley, her incredibly informative and detailed sewing blog.

Finally, I've been signed on for an on-campus writing and blogging job, and I've been transitioning between workplaces. It's my first writing writing job, so I'm pretty excited -- I guess I'm seeing it as proof that jobs for English specialists do, sort of, kind of, exist. Maybe. Ha, ha.

Okay, the Liebster.

The Rules
  1. Each person must post 11 things about themselves.
  2. Answer the 11 questions the person giving the award has set for you.
  3. Create 11 questions for the people you will be giving the award to.
  4. Choose 11 people to award and send them a link to your post. Go to their page and tell them.
  5. No tag backs.

11 Things:

...I'm not really good at coming up with 'fun facts' about myself, so I'm going to bend the rules a bit here and only post as many as I can think of. Also, I don't think 'Many of my clothes are self-made,' which is my fall-back 'fun-fact', is going to work on a sewing blog. Darn.
  1. Um, I like copy-editing. Not striking out large chunks of text or anything, or even necessarily fine-tuning phrases (that belongs to its own level of awesome) but just adding in commas or fixing semi-colons or whatever. Whatever.
  2. My minor's in Bio even though my specialist's in English. That's strange and exciting, right?
  3. Even after several years of wearing the hijab, I struggle almost every time with tying it/pinning it smoothly or fluidly. Wow, this list of 'fun facts' is just a confession of embarassments.
  4. Oh! I volunteered at Rouge Park this last summer, and can now name basic Southern Ontario summer thistles, nettles, and flowering plants, along with some butteflies and a very few bees.
Okay, that was way too hard. I'm out.

11 Questions for Me:

1) What is your favourite book?
Catch-22. EASY question. Also the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit.

2) Tell us about your perfect day?
Get up 30 minutes before dawn, stay awake after praying, eat leftovers and a glass of milk for breakfast ... oh wait, that's probably too detailed, isn't it. Mostly I'd just like to spend a long, long day writing, and cooking/eating/sewing/hanging in the park, all with people I like. You know.

3) If there were more hours in the day, how would you spend them?
Writing. At least that's what I tell myself.

4) Have you bought anything recently on Ebay?
Never used it. I don't buy much online.

5) What can't you live without?
... A lot of things? Food, and clean air, and a functioning immune system, but I guess that would apply to a general 'you.' Also it's an overly flippant answer, because of course on second thought I remembered that those three things are not very common, are they. I'm sorry. Somehow this question was harder than the next; I didn't even need to think to answer that one.

6) Who can't you live without?
See question 2, above. "People I like." ...My sister, my brother, my mum, really.

7) What was your favourite childhood tv show?
Scooby Doo or Card Captor Sakura, maybe. I also remember complaining about Hey Arnold! a lot, so I probably liked that one, too.

8) Who do you call on a great day?
I ... rarely use my phone to call people. Man, it's true, I'm an antisocial recluse. I'll probably text one of my siblings or a friend, though.

9) Who do you call on a bad day?
See last question. Or don't.

10) What is something that doesn't matter much to you now, but meant a great deal in the past?
Hmm, I can't think of an answer to this one. They're all silly things, like "having a pair of flared jeans," or "watching sports." Actually I'll go with that second one: the NHL's having a lock-out this season, and I'm barely even noticing.

11) What is one thing you do today that you want to still be doing in thirty years?
Writing. Though of course I want to be writing far more -- expertly? carefully? fluidly? Scratch that. I want to write better than I do now.

11 Questions for You:
  1. "Eleven! This is something new. I wish I had eleven, too!" That title up there is a Dr. Seuss quote, yeah? So who was your favourite writer as a child?
  2. Poetry, fiction, or non-fiction, which do you prefer?
  3. If you sew, then what's your ideal fabric item to make? If not, then what would it be to buy?
  4. Do you have any (non-sewing) craft hobbies? What do you like to make?
  5. The municipality (village, town, city, etc) you live in, what's your favourite area of it? A certain park? A certain street?
  6. If you could study any one discipline, and had the money and/or time for it, what would it be?
  7. If you could learn any one skill, and had the money and/or time for it, what would it be?
  8. If you could devote a good chunk of your time to any one cause (be it a charity, a movement, a whatever), what would it be?
  9. What was the last book you read that was so good that you went around pestering everyone to read it?
  10. What's your favourite genre of movies or tv shows?
  11. Aaand...well, what do you do in your spare time? What's that thing you wish you had more time for?
11 Blogs I really like to read:
  1. Not Waving, But Flying (Adventures of an almost computer scientist)
  2. Thewallinna and other creatures
  3. The Perfect Nose
  4. four square walls
  5. Ginger Makes!
  6. Sew Well
  7. The blog names keep getting shorter and shorter, hey.
  8. That (above) isn't actually a blog name. Neither is this.
  9. Tanit-Isis Sews
  10. Noshings
  11. Smitten Kitchen
Thanks for playing!
